About Me

Chapter 1: Education and Support Journey

Education and Support

After relocating to Vancouver, Canada, continued working in community support roles, building on previous experience in Australia within the same field. This allowed for continuity in supporting individuals with diverse needs while adapting to a new environment and service system.

Following a subsequent move to Whitehorse, Yukon, worked for three months as a Residential Support Worker, further expanding experience in direct client support and strengthening practical skills in complex care settings.

After a short break, began a role as an Education Assistant (EA) with the Yukon Department of Education in an elementary school setting. This transition marked an important step in career development, offering the opportunity to broaden professional scope while applying existing skills in behaviour management, individualized support, and student engagement.

Rather than being a departure from previous experience, this role has provided a natural extension of a long-term commitment to care and education, allowing for continued professional growth and refinement of practice within a structured educational environment.

Chapter 2: Empowerment

Empowering Individuals with Disabilities

With over seven years of experience in disability and aged care, I have supported individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Down syndrome, non-verbal communication needs, and dementia. My approach emphasizes empathy, structure, and empowerment—helping clients build confidence, enhance communication, and achieve greater independence.

By implementing individualized strategies and fostering inclusive environments, I have witnessed remarkable progress in both daily living and emotional well-being, reinforcing my commitment to meaningful, person-centred care.

With each client, I focus on creating tailored routines that balance structure with flexibility, encouraging both skill development and personal growth. This approach has allowed me to support individuals in mastering daily living tasks, exploring new hobbies, and strengthening social connections, all while fostering a sense of autonomy and self-confidence.

Additionally, I integrate adaptive communication methods, sensory-friendly strategies, and behavior-support techniques to address diverse needs effectively. By observing progress closely and making thoughtful adjustments to care strategies, I ensure that each individual experiences meaningful engagement, emotional security, and tangible improvements in both independence and quality of life.

Comprehensive Support

Through close collaboration with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams, I have ensured that each support plan reflects the unique needs, goals, and preferences of every individual. This cooperative approach not only enhances the quality of care but also builds trust, respect, and consistency across all aspects of support.

My professional journey continues to evolve as I expand my expertise into community care, supporting residents facing homelessness, addictions, and complex mental health challenges. By combining empathy with evidence-based practice, I strive to deliver holistic and compassionate care—empowering individuals to rebuild stability, regain purpose, and pursue a more fulfilling life.
